TESTIMONIALS

I have known Andy Vince since he was an International Athlete over twenty-five years ago.

He has an inquisitive mind, and always endeavors to gain as much knowledge as possible to aid better performance in all athletic, and coaching activities. At the end of his International career he was employed in track facility management, before appointment as a British National Athletic Coach, responsible for coaching, organization and management of National Track and Field Teams in Scotland.

He was until recently the resident field events coach at the National Training Center (NTC) in Clermont Florida. Here he has built up a mixed range of enthusiastic athletes, at all levels of performance. As well as some excellent 'throws' athletes, he coaches a number of outstanding 'jumpers'.

Recently, I joined senior athletes who train and compete at the NTC. I was impressed with the extent of facilities. In particular the weights room and outdoor athletic track. It is easy to see why past and present Olympic medallists, use these facilities. They obviously know a good thing when they see it, and the set up at the NTC is as good as it gets.

I was so enthused that, after thirty-five years absence, I picked up my discus and did some training. With coaching, and motivation from Andy, I soon found form and got onto the world - ranking list for my age category. The climate here in Florida nearly every day makes training a pleasure. Combine this with good coaching, and quickly things start to happen! Top class athletes, the world over know that the benefits of good coaching leads to good results.

I was unfortunately not able to attend one of the NTC/Throw Coach Florida recent 'Teaching Clinics', but have attended them in Scotland, and can vouch for their educational and motivational value.

I have coached and trained in many parts of the world, but the friendliness and coaching here in Florida guarantees my return in the not too distant future.

I have known Andy Vince for almost 20 years as an athlete, coach, colleague & friend. The experience he brings to Florida has been gained by competing internationally, coaching at the highest level as well as team leading and managing Scottish & British National Teams. His knowledge of the throws and the conditioning required to compete at this level has earned him the respect & admiration of the throwing fraternity in the UK and many other countries. He is also an accomplished coach educator having managed, tutored & assessed on UK athletic courses at all levels for many years.

Three years (2007) ago I began Coaching, as a volunteer, the shot putters and discus throwers at a small private high school. Prior to this, our throwers were not very good. They typically did not place in the top 4 at the District meet (which would have advanced them to the Regional meet).

Fast-forward 3 years to 2009. I now have 2 girls and 3 boys that will place in the top 4 in the District meet in shot and/or discus. Of those I expect both girls and 2 of the boys to place in the top 4 at the Regional meet, which will advance them to the State meet. One of the boys is currently ranked #1 in the State in division 1A and has a great chance to place 1st at the State meet…and he’s only a sophomore.

How does a turn-around like this happen? It simple. . .great coaching from Andy Vince. I have been taking my throwers to work with Coach Vince and the results are outstanding. Whether dealing with advanced throwers (such as my state ranked discus thrower) or younger inexperienced throwers, Coach Vince always has the instruction and advice best suited for them. They have all responded very well to his instruction. It never ceases to amaze me how he diagnoses problems and has drills to solve the problem. There’s no wonder why athletes come from all over the country to train with him.

As for myself, even though I was a state class discus thrower in 1977 and had a grasp of the basics of throwing, I was clearly lacking in the details. To this, Coach Vince has helped me immensely. During the training sessions with Coach Vince he also instructs me on what to look for and how to correct problems. I am a much better Coach than I was 3 years ago.

Working with Andy Vince, my throwers and myself have benefited a greatly, and for this we will always be grateful.
